When I took these pictures several weeks ago, I meant to post some of them, but totally forgot in my unexpected rush of work (and failure to start NaNoWriMo).
There are at least a dozen rabbits running around at the stables. One afternoon, when I had just walked out of the shed where we store our saddles, I heard a rustle nearby. I looked, and was startled to find two rabbits facing off less than six feet away from me! This was one of those rare occasions when I just happened to have my camera handy — I always bring my camera to the stables, and still had it on me from photographing Panama moments earlier.
I pulled out my camera and set it to take pictures consecutively when I held down the button. After a few shots of them facing off, the rabbits lunged at one another. I don't know if they were playing or fighting, but it was funny to watch them hopping all around:
They also sometimes stood upright, hitting each other with their front feet like little boxers:
Oh, how I wish I knew how to Photoshop a couple of little rapiers into this one!
Ninja rabbit!
And the winner is:

Awww, too friggen cute. They were probably just playing. That's how mine play. Then they lick each other in the head when they're finished. I'm surprised they let you get close enough to snap that many pictures. Most wild rabbits bolt as soon as they see a person. Of course, if they're not scared of horses, I guess humans wouldn't bother them either. :-)
Hi, Amy! I was surprised too. However, when I looked up and saw them, they were already pretty close, so I just stayed where I was and snapped my pictures.
These rabbits aren't totally tame, but they aren't quite as jumpy as most wild rabbits are. There are a whole lot of them, so there must not be many predators around. I see hawks occasionally, but that's about it.
And actually, it's my horse who is afraid of the rabbits: He gets jumpy when they are around, and actually spooks if they're out in the pasture with him at dusk!
This is really cute! It's like a mini rabbit movie ;-)
Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, Michele. Thanks for visiting!
You know, there were squirrels and other wildlife all over the place this summer and fall, but I still don't see as many rabbits as I used to. I did, however, spot one romping around my dog's gravesite when I went to visit her a few weeks ago. That made me smile given that her first and one of only a few wildlife kills during her lifetime was a rabbit that she was hell-bent on getting, despite me dragging her away from where she had it trapped all the way home. Once there, she just turned right around and returned to her hounding. Now, it seems, one is hounding her. ;o)
