I'm still working on the website updates I started eons ago, and as part of that I'm putting a new picture on my website homepage. I'll also use the same picture for my Blogger account and any bios I'm asked to provide.
The thing is, I can't decide which picture I like best, so I want to get my readers' opinions. Scroll down for a poll, and feel free to elaborate in the comments if you'd like.
Here are the three I'm trying to decide between:
Picture 1:
Picture 2:
Picture 3:
And the poll:

I like 2 and 3 the best, but I'd have to know whether you plan to change the color scheme of your site before I could give you my final vote! I grayscaled my own Website picture because the color I was wearing (lavender) didn't match my site color scheme (blue and green). I like full color when it works, though, so when I get around to taking some new pictures, I'll make sure I'm wearing blue, green or a neutral. ;o)
I'm with Kathy. I especially love 2. It really stood out to me when I saw it. They're all really good pics, but 2 is my favorite. :-) You take great photos!
Smiles,
Michele
Kathy, I'm leaving my website template the same, and just changing some of the text and the picture. I love my website template and am not ready to change it yet!!!
Michele, the talented photographer would be my husband. :o)
Thanks to both of you for voting and commenting!
I get the feeling since you are changing your pic and mulling over it, that you are looking to convey an image.
None of the images in these pics said "Hire me to write for you" nor did they say "Come sit and have a cup of tea with me."
With the ease of taking digital photos, I would take some more.
I think the books behind pictures 2 and 3 speak volumes, but the colors may detract from the focus of the picture which should be you and your expression.
The old adage about smiling before you answer the phone because it comes out in your voice is so true, and it springs to mind with your pictures here. What were you thinking about when the picture was taken? Much of that will come out in the picture.
I have one picture that I like which is very unusual - it was taken from above me, I'm in a sweater, and I'm looking up - and I realized this looked "professional" because many group/team shots of professionals (accounting, mortgage, consulting or lawyers) tend to be a group of faces looking up.
Ask your husband to take a bunch of you looking in different directions (maybe just a tilt of the head, eyes on the photographer or beyond him, picturing something), using different attitudes, and see how you like them.
Don't think about the camera. I take lousy pictures but I can tell that the ones I am taking now are at least better than the ones I took when I was younger. The ones where I was and am not thinking about the camera have always been best - the natural side of me comes out.
Good luck - I'd like to see what you come up with. I traveled over from Irreverent freelancer because you said you'd made money doing the little blogs, which is one gig I am thinking of starting on. Mostly the one I am considering will give me pocket change while also forcing me to be more disciplined with my writing (making it tighter faster for example). (THIS was stream-of-consciousness, then a slight re-editing.)
Best wishes!
Diane
Oh, in case I was misunderstood, I was not saying you should smile. I also voted for pic #2, but liked #3 - the black and white - as well, just the color worked better for me (tho, I have to ask - is someone like me the audience?) out of the three pics.
I voted for #2, but I have to say that the photo you have on your front page NOW is my favorite. I wouldn't change it. It even matches the color scheme of the site!
Diane (Chava812):
Thanks for the advice. Actually, we did take nearly 100 pictures during our "photo shoot." The 3 you see here (well, 2, because one is shown both in color and in black and white) were my favorites out of all of them.
Diana:
Thanks for the input! I do like the picture that is currently on my website, but I worry that it's not professional-looking enough. What does everyone else think?
Honestly, I like the picture you have now better.
