I love hitting interesting milestones on my blog. I just noticed this week that my next post would be my 1,111th post. I've been keeping this blog since December of 2005, and although it has changed a lot over the years -- from just general blatherings to a more focused writing blog -- and I've gone through periods of writing more and writing less, I always like seeing these milestones as they pop up.
This blog has been with me through a lot. I started it just a couple of months after I started freelancing full time, back when I only had about two clients and one of them was an content site. The other client was a blog network, and writing for them had been my first foray into blogging -- and the reason I decided to start a blog of my own. Because I blogged about pretty much everything for this client, though, my own blog started out the same way. It never occurred to me that they had a network, with lots of niche blogs, while I had a single blog.
Of course, as I started writing and blogging more and more, getting more familiar with the industry, I began narrowing the focus of my own blog. Eventually I started others, but this was my first blog.
The last year or two, I've been pretty quiet on my blog, and quiet on other writing blogs I used to frequent, too. I started getting burnt out, and got a part-time job as a nanny, which has been working out pretty well for me. I'm actually beginning to really miss freelancing full-time, but I love the family I work for and their kids won't be young forever, so for the time being I'm going to let it all play out. Just yesterday, the older kid told me that her mom told a friend of theirs that I was a "gift from the gods." They've been just as wonderful to me, so for now it looks like I'll be staying put, and freelancing and blogging when I can.
Like I said, this blog has been with me through a lot of changes -- and it's bound to be with me through a lot more to come!
