NaNoWriMo in July

The last couple of years, I've been doing Camp NaNoWriMo, which is the summer version of NaNoWriMo.  This year it is being held twice: The first session was in April (when Script Frenzy used to be), and the second will be in July.  Signup for the July session just started on Monday.

The nice thing about Camp NaNo this year is that they are allowing participants to choose their own word count goals, rather than locking everyone into 50k.  So if you only want to write 10k, you can meet your goal and still get prizes for doing so.  It's quite an improvement on the typical NaNo model, I think.

In April I set my word count at 10k -- I was working on revisions at the time, so my word count only reflected any new material I was planning on writing.  I did write a couple of short stories and a new scene, which got me to my goal, but I didn't get as much done marking revisions on the manuscript as I had intended (obviously, since -- if you read my novel blog -- you know I am still working on it).

I had really hoped that they would allow us to set page count goals in July (they mentioned the possibility in a survey after the April session was over), but they didn't.  I don't want to only count new words in July, though, as I'm afraid it'll get me sidetracked from revisions again -- so instead, I'm going to assign an average number of words to a page, and just multiply my page count by that number.  My goal is to be totally done with revisions by the end of July, so right now I've set my goal at 80k, but that may change depending on how much I get done this month.  (I'm almost finished right now with going through the manuscript and marking revisions, so in July I'll be mostly making revisions I've already marked, plus writing some new material.)
