Write-ins and resolutions

There's a lot of write-ins planned this year.  The Denver region of NaNoWriMo has gotten quite large and active since I first started participating in 2006, and it's amazing to see the amount of activity on the forums and all the write-ins that get scheduled.

Aside from the Friday write-ins that I plan every year, this year I also plan on attending write-ins on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday afternoons.  There are sometimes spontaneous or one-off write-ins that happen, too, and I am going to join a friend for one or two of those this weekend as well.

Write-ins are often my saving grace when it comes to NaNoWriMo.  Especially if you go to a focused, productive one, it's the best way to get a lot of words written in a short amount of time.  Even the social ones can be helpful and motivating, though.  I've gone to a social write in and been so distracted that I've only written a few hundred words, but then gone home afterward and written another couple thousand.

I love my write-ins, but sometimes I find myself working on client work instead, usually because I have a deadline to meet.  So this year I am resolving to only work on my NaNo project during write-ins.  It'll mean I have to get my client work done each day before any write-in I'm planning on going to, OR take a break from client work for a couple hours (which, let's face it, is the hardest thing for me -- but the client work will still be there, and a couple hours aren't going to make a huge difference in getting it done).

Speaking of which, I have client work to do today before I go to the write-in this evening, so I'd better get started on it!
