Today I went back to my "normal" schedule -- with my morning job as well as my afternoon job, that is. I do like my morning job, as it forces me to get up early and get some work done while the kiddo is at preschool and I'm at Starbucks waiting to pick him up.
I looked at the calendar this morning and realized that I have only six weeks left of this schedule, though. Come summer I'll be working nearly full-time while the nanny kids are out of school. It'll no doubt be a busy summer, the busiest I've had in a long while.
I think come fall I am going to take some time to reevaluate my schedule and my work. I'm getting too busy, juggling too many things, and I need to take the time to decide whether I want to continue on the path I'm currently on (which is making it increasingly difficult to write, for clients as well as my own projects). I've made some commitments for summer which I want to honor, but then it'll be time to do a little spring cleaning -- or fall cleaning -- of my life as a whole.
It seems to me that this is no different than a freelancer taking a step back and reconsidering how much time they spend on social media, or having lunch with friends, or other things that distract them from the business of freelancing. In some ways, my childcare work is more insidious, though -- it's more easily overlooked because I am getting paid for it and I do enjoy it. I'm just having to do too much of it anymore, and it's distracting me from other, more long-term goals.
